Final performance times and running order are subject to real-time announcements before the competition. The running order generally follows the announced schedule, but in cases of participant absence, lateness, or other force majeure factors, the Association may adjust the running order immediately without objection from participants.

Seating at the competition venue is limited and reserved for participants only. Admission arrangements for accompanying persons follow the individual competition's regulations (e.g. "each participant may bring one accompanying family member or friend"). Where the Association states in the competition regulations that a jazz drum kit will be provided, only one standard kit is supplied. If multiple cymbals, pedals, or specialised equipment are required, participants must prepare these themselves.
Participants should read the competition regulations carefully before registering. After registration, change requests citing prior unawareness of equipment or rules will not be accepted.
Competition Requirements
In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between the Chinese and English versions of these rules, the Chinese version prevails.
The Association's Competition Committee holds the supreme and final decision-making authority over any disputes arising during the competition.
All participants must comply with the competition requirements; failure to do so may result in disqualification.
Participants must present valid identification on the day of the competition for verification of identity and eligibility.
Participants must check in on time and follow on-site staff instructions when performing. Those who fail to check in or enter the venue on schedule may forfeit scoring or awards, or be disqualified.
All participants must wear formal attire when competing.
All instruments brought to the competition must be transported to the venue and set up and tuned by the participant before the check-in time. To preserve fairness, no withdrawal or refund requests citing inability to bring or transport instruments will be accepted after registration; such cases will be treated as absences.
The Association reserves the right to require any person at the venue who fails to cooperate with staff arrangements to leave the premises and to disqualify the related participant.
On-site Competition Notes
To ensure fairness, the Association does not provide or rent out the competition piano or stage for pre-competition practice or personal use.
For all instruments, the performance time begins to be counted from the moment the participant begins setting up and testing the instrument, after the MC has announced the participant's name.
Performance time for all instruments is strictly calculated according to the rules. Participants should set up and tune their instruments before the competition and rehearse if necessary, so that performance can begin in the shortest possible time.
When the performance time is about to reach the limit, staff will signal the participant to stop with a chime. Participants must stop performing immediately upon hearing the signal; participants who do not complete their performance will not have marks deducted.
Accompanying persons are welcome to take photographs and video at the venue. However, out of respect for other participants, no person may photograph or record other performers without the consent of the Association or those performers, in order to avoid affecting their performance.
Regarding the Complimentary Piano Child Auxiliary Pedal (Disclaimer)
The competition provides, free of charge, an original imported Japanese child piano auxiliary pedal for participants' use. Specific models or brands cannot be requested.
As an external attachment to the piano, the auxiliary pedal's performance is affected by piano bench height adjustment and the player's body posture and foot-pressure technique. The Association does not guarantee that the feel of the on-site pedal will be identical to the pedal the participant uses during regular practice.
Bringing Your Own Pedal Recommended Participants who are accustomed to using their own personal child pedal or similar auxiliary equipment are strongly encouraged to prioritise bringing their own equipment to the competition, install it on stage, and perform with it, to ensure consistency with their regular practice setup.
Installation and Adjustment Arrangements
On-site staff will, on a voluntary basis, provide basic installation assistance on stage according to need (the MC will announce the relevant arrangements before each competition session).
Staff provide only basic installation assistance and are neither responsible for nor do they guarantee adjustment of the pedal to the most comfortable angle for the participant.
Personalised adjustments — including piano bench distance, pedal height, and angle — must be carried out by the participant or their accompanying person.
Accompanying persons are requested to come on stage together with the participant to assist with pedal installation and adjustment, so that the participant can begin performing in optimal condition.
To ensure smooth on-site flow and the participant's best performance, participants must practise pedal installation and adjustment at home in advance of the competition and familiarise themselves with the operation, so that fine-tuning can be completed quickly on stage. The Association accepts no responsibility for time delays or performance impact resulting from a participant's failure to familiarise themselves with adjustment procedures in advance.
On-Stage Testing Window
Once all adjustments are complete, the participant has a 5-second testing window. Once the 5 seconds elapse, performance time begins to be counted and the performance officially commences.
The moment the participant produces the first note on stage, all preparations are deemed complete and the competition performance has officially begun.
Once a performance has commenced, no requests for a re-performance will be accepted under any circumstances. Participants are kindly asked to inspect and prepare carefully.
Scoring and Awards
Scoring criteria primarily consider the completeness of the piece performed, musicality, technical level, and expressiveness during the performance. The marks and comments given by the jury on-site are final and may not be interfered with. The Association does not act on behalf of jury members in interpreting their comments or scores; the on-site real-time assessments by the participant and the jury constitute the final result.
Competition scores are strictly calculated according to the rules, and final results are determined by the Jury Committee. Participants should respect the Jury Committee's decisions and may not raise objections to the scores.
Each participant's score is determined by the individual marks on the scoring sheet.
Competition results will be announced on-site, with the awards for each participant published on the official website approximately two weeks later. No enquiries regarding results will be entertained during this interim period.
All results are final as announced on the official website. In the event of any discrepancy between the on-site announcement and the official website, the official website prevails.
Out of respect for participants' privacy, the online results announce only the rank achieved by each participant. Enquiries regarding the scores of other participants will not be processed.
Teachers and institutions may be eligible for the "Top Three Outstanding Guidance Award" or the "Active Promotion Award". Please refer to the official website and individual competition regulations for details.
Winners are required to participate, on a voluntary basis, in related performances, concerts, or winners' concerts arranged by the Association. The Association reserves the right to recover or revoke awards from those who are absent without good reason. Such performances are voluntary and no performance fee will be paid.
For winners who do not collect their awards on-site, the Association will dispatch awards approximately three months after the entire competition concludes, via SF Express on a freight-collect basis, to the address registered at the time of registration. Changes to the delivery address require an additional administrative fee of HKD 100 and are subject to the relevant administrative processing time.
Winners are advised to collect their awards and certificates directly at the competition venue to avoid postal delays, loss, or other unforeseen risks.
Time Change Arrangements
Where a time change request has received prior approval from the Association, the participant's competition score will not be affected by the time change.
As a result of the change in competition session, the jury composition may differ from that of the original session. Once the participant has submitted a time change request and obtained the Association's approval, the participant is deemed to have consented to and accepted this arrangement, and may not raise any objection regarding differences in jury composition.
Award Presentation:
Default rule: For participants whose competition time has been adjusted, awards will be presented only at the award ceremony of the original session, not at the newly adjusted competition session.
If the newly adjusted competition session is scheduled after the original session's award ceremony, the participant may submit an on-site request to collect the award at the new session.
If the original session has not yet concluded, the final ranking can only be determined after all participants in the original session have completed their performances (as scores require comprehensive comparative assessment).
If a participant whose competition time has been adjusted is unable to collect the award on-site and requires it to be dispatched, all related shipping costs (including but not limited to courier fees, packaging fees, and administrative handling fees) shall be borne entirely by the participant.
Once a participant has submitted a time change request and obtained the Association's approval, the participant is deemed to have fully understood and agreed to all the above arrangements, including possible changes in jury composition, restrictions on the award presentation session, and the bearing of shipping fees.
Disclaimer, Force Majeure and Disputes
In the event that the competition is postponed, relocated, or cancelled due to weather, government announcements, public health events, transport disruptions, or other force majeure factors beyond the Association's control, the official website and email announcements shall prevail. The Association reserves the final decision on adjusted arrangements, and fees already paid are non-refundable.
Participants are responsible for the safekeeping of their personal belongings, instruments, and other property during the competition. The Association bears no responsibility for any loss or damage.
All rights of interpretation of these rules belong to the Association.
